THE GUNPOWDER PLOT Les catholiques, menés par Guy Fawkes, organisèrent ce complot pour faire sauter le Parlement britannique et tuer le roi Jacques Ier et sa famille, le 5 novembre 1605, en réaction au refus royal d'instaurer la liberté de culte. Le complot fut déjoué. On commémore cet événement, appelé Guy Fawkes' Night (voir encadré), par des feux d'artifice et des feux de joie.
